Literacy at Home
     -a writing project

The Documenting Literacy at Home project was designed to give adult learners an opportunity to document and share stories of learning together with their children. Students were first introduced to basic photography techniques and then given disposable cameras to document language and literacy-rich activities at home and in their communities. Parents received intentional writing instruction in their Adult Education class based on the rubric categories of the CASAS FWA - Content, Organization, Word Choice, Grammar and Sentence Structure, and Spelling, Capitalization and Punctuation. Along with an adult literacy consultant, staff collaboratively planned and implemented intentional instruction to guide parents in discussing, writing, presenting and reflecting upon their individual projects. The Documenting Literacy at Home project was designed to give adult learners an opportunity to document and share stories of learning together with their children.
